Yuvraj Singh, the former Indian cricketer, recently opened up about his bond with the former Indian captain, MS Dhoni on a podcast show hosted by renowned Ranveer Allahabadia on Youtube.
During his appearance on Ranveer Allahbadia’s popular podcast, Yuvraj Singh candidly discussed how individuals seeking high TV ratings often portrayed him inaccurately. He also delved into his relationship with MS Dhoni, the captain during India’s victorious 2011 ODI World Cup campaign. To everyone’s surprise, Yuvraj revealed that he and Dhoni have never shared a particularly close friendship.
He made sure to emphasize that when it came to serving their country on the field, both of them totally dedicated themselves and demonstrated a genuine passion for the game, coupled with a profound love for cricket. Therefore, it was the sport that brought them together and kickstarted their connection.
“Me and Mahi are not close friends; we were friends because of cricket; we played together. My lifestyle was very different from his, so we were never close friends, just because of cricket,” Yuvraj Singh said in ‘The Ranveer Show’ (TRS) podcast.
“When me and Mahi went on the ground, we gave more than 100% to our country. In that, he was captain, I was vice-captain. When I came into the team, I was 4 years junior. When you are captain and vice-captain, there will be decision differences,” Yuvraj Singh further said.
Yuvraj also spoke about their selfless support for each other during their partnership on the field. Recalling an incident, he said: “There were times when MS was injured and he was batting in Bangladesh and I was a runner for him. I remember when he was in his 90s, I wanted to give him the strike to help him reach his 100. I remember diving for him, for his second run as he was in his 90s and I didn’t want him to miss out on his 100.”
Yuvraj Singh also mentioned that there were instances when he and MS Dhoni disagreed on certain decisions. However, he emphasized that such differences are common within any team and highlighted Dhoni’s commendable quality of consistently offering candid and genuine opinions.

“Sometimes he made decisions I didn’t like, sometimes I made decisions he didn’t like. That happens in every team. When I was at the end of my career, when I wasn’t getting the right picture about my career, I asked him for advice. He was the guy who told me that the selection committee is not looking you right now. I was like, at least I got to know the real picture. This is just before 2019 World Cup. That is the reality,” Yuvraj Singh concluded.
