The India-Pakistan cricket match had an overwhelmingly one-sided outcome, with India displaying their superiority and securing a comfortably decisive victory. This win propelled them to the top of the points table in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The defeat suffered by Babar Azam and his team was nothing short of embarrassing. The gap between India and Pakistan in ODI World Cups became even more evident with this match result.
The much-awaited confrontation transpired at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where Team India emerged triumphant with a seven-wicket margin. India secured the game with about 20 overs to spare. Jasprit Bumrah, who took two key wickets, including those of Mohammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan, was awarded the Man of the Match.
Following Bumrah’s excellent performance, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma took center stage, hitting an explosive 86 off just 63 balls. His innings comprised six sixes and six fours. Shreyas Iyer also played a calm hand, contributing an undefeated 53 from 62 deliveries.
For Babar Azam and his team, this loss was surely a humiliating experience. The scoreboard continues to favor India over Pakistan in ODI World Cup matches, with India currently having a perfect record of eight triumphs versus Pakistan in these prestigious games. Despite the heated nature of the contest, there was a heartwarming moment post-game when Babar Azam approached Virat Kohli, seeking his autographed jersey. It was a heartwarming moment between two of the cricketing world’s biggest superstars from their respective nations.
But former Pakistani legend Wasim Akram seemed unhappy at the incident and slammed the Pakistani captain. In his latest interaction, he said, “Babar should have not met Kohli on the ground. This was not the situation to meet Kohli openly. Babar should have taken the shirt privately from Virat.”
“Today was not the day to do this. If you want to do it – if your uncle’s son has asked you to get Kohli’s shirt – then do it after the game in the dressing room.” Akram added.
Pakistan, batting first, managed to score only 191 runs in 42.5 overs. Babar Azam emerged as the team’s top run-scorer, with 50 runs from 58 balls. However, in reaction, Rohit Sharma demonstrated a positive mindset right from the onset and notched up a quick half-century, scoring 86 runs from 63 deliveries. India’s performance has considerably improved, bringing them to the top of the standings, but Pakistan now finds themselves in fourth place with four points, and their net run rate has dipped into negative territory.
