Virender Sehwag strongly voiced his concerns about Pakistan’s alleged unlawful activities against India, sparking controversy with his tweet about the Men in Green. His expression of frustration came in response to widespread criticism, with some accusing him of promoting hostility towards the visiting team.
Sehwag got himself in deep water after poking fun at Pakistan following New Zealand’s victory against Sri Lanka, which knocked Babar Azam’s team out of the semi-final contention. While his statements were not the most subtle, the seasoned player didn’t anticipate facing severe criticism from supporters of both Pakistan and India.
Several verified Twitter accounts in India raised issues about Sehwag’s comments. In response, the cricket icon opted to address the matter, citing a handful of occasions to make his point.
“In the 21st century there have been 6 ODI world cups. In 6 attempts, only once in 2007 did we not qualify for the semi-finals and have qualified in 5 of the last 6 World cups. On the other hand only once have Pakistan qualified for the semis in 6 attempts in 2011. And they come up with ridiculous allegations blaming ICC and BCCI of changing balls and pitch .”
“Their Prime Minister mocks us when we lose to another team despite having beaten them. Upon reaching here , their player posts pictures of enjoying tea in Hyderabad with sarcasm to mock our soldier.”
“The PCB chief on camera refers to our country as Dushman Mulk. And they expect love for their hate. And those preaching class, that is a two way street. Jo Achha vyavhar kare uske saath hum bahut hi achhe, aur jo aisa vyavhar kare toh sahi mauke par soot samet lautana is my way. On field bhi, off-field bhi,” he wrote on his X handle.
A few days ago, Sehwag playfully teased the Pakistan team, advising them to wish each other a safe journey back home. This came after New Zealand’s convincing victory over Sri Lanka secured their spot in the knockout stage. Pakistan had hoped for Sri Lanka to upset the Kiwis to set the stage for a crucial match against England.
