Indian cricket sensation Virat Kohli is setting his sights on numerous batting records in the near future. His performance in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has been outstanding, with him already notching up four half-century scores in the tournament.
Virat Kohli just missed reaching hundreds twice in the tournament, falling short at 85 against Australia in Chennai and 95 against New Zealand in Dharamshala. Notably, he’s just one century away from matching Sachin Tendulkar’s remarkable ODI record.
Virat Kohli achieved his 48th ODI hundred against Bangladesh at Pune’s MCA Stadium, and he’s now only one century shy of equaling Sachin’s incredible record of 49 ODI centuries. Sachin Tendulkar remains the ODI century king. Kohli came tantalizingly close to that milestone against New Zealand, losing out by only five runs. It’s worth recalling that he faced some criticism for supposedly slowing down in his pursuit of a century during the Pune match, a move that raised eyebrows and sparked conversation.
Virat Kohli has recently spoken candidly about his career, emphasizing that he never pursued personal milestones. Instead, he attributes his impressive record of 78 international centuries and over 26,000 international runs to his enduring presence in the game. Virat Kohli said, “If we talk about cricket, I had never thought of achieving it all, as in where my career is and how God has blessed me with such a career span and performances. I had always dreamt I’d do this, but I had never thought things would pan out this way exactly.”
Virat Kohli, India’s premier batsman, confessed that he never envisioned accumulating such an impressive number of centuries and runs in his cricketing journey. He added, “Nobody can plan these things, the way your journey is going, or the way things unfold in front of you. I hadn’t thought that I’d score so many hundreds and so many runs in these 12 years.”

The Indian cricket team has been on a remarkable winning streak, triumphing in all six of their league matches. Their next encounter against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium this Thursday carries high stakes as a win would secure their spot in the semi-finals. Notably, Virat Kohli has been in outstanding form, amassing 354 runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with an impressive average of 88.50, which includes a splendid century and three well-fought half-centuries. However, it’s worth mentioning that Kohli did face a rare setback when he was dismissed for a duck during the game against England at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
