Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, recently stated his goal to regain the same mindset he possessed during the 2019 World Cup. It was an excellent tournament for him, as he emerged as the top scorer with an astounding total of 648 runs. The recollections of that occasion have a special place in his heart, marking what he considers one of his finest cricketing moments.
As the captain of the Indian cricket team starts on an uphill battle to achieve the nation’s first ICC trophy in a decade, Rohit Sharma recognizes the great pressure that comes with hosting a World Cup on home turf. Nevertheless, he is trying to shield himself from the external talk and focus on his game.
“For me, it is important how I keep myself relaxed and not worry about external factors that play a role, whether positively or not negatively. I want to shut out everything,” Rohit told PTI before joining the Asia Cup camp in Bengaluru.
In the 2019 World Cup, Rohit Sharma excelled with the bat, leaving his imprint by hammering a fantastic total of 648 runs. His incredible feat of reaching five hundred in a single edition remains undefeated, breaking Kumar Sangakkara’s previous record of four tons in the 2015 World Cup.
Rohit’s World Cup ton count matches the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s, with both notching up an astounding six hundred each. Now, Rohit is excited to reconnect with the same level of attention and preparation that propelled his outstanding performance in the 2019 World Cup.
“I want to get into the phase I was in before the 2019 World Cup. I was in a great frame of mind and prepared really well for the tournament. I was in good shape and had a good mindset. I want to bring that back, and I have time to do that. Trying to recollect what the right things were that I was doing before the 2019 World Cup as a cricketer and as a person I want to revisit that thought process of mine personally,” Rohit added.
“The focus will be on how I can achieve my goals in the next two months, for me and my team. A person can’t change in a period of one or two months,” he further said.
