According to former South African cricketer Robin Peterson, there is a rising star named Dewald Brevis who could make a significant impact on the national team during the upcoming ODI World Cup. Despite not having made his debut for the Proteas yet, Brevis has caught Peterson’s attention with his exceptional performances in both franchise and domestic cricket.
Peterson spoke highly of Brevis, describing him as a gifted cricketer. He was particularly impressed by Brevis’s match-winning innings, where he scored 57 runs off just 41 deliveries while playing for MI New York against Washington Freedom in the inaugural Major League Cricket.
Although Brevis is currently expected to be among the reserves for the mega tournament, Peterson firmly believes that the talented young player should be included in the final 15-member squad. Peterson sees great potential in Brevis and believes his skills and abilities would be valuable assets for the team, especially under the leadership of skipper Temba Bavuma.
The endorsement from a seasoned cricketer like Peterson reflects the promise and potential that Dewald Brevis holds, and fans and selectors alike will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on his journey towards representing the national team in the prestigious ODI World Cup.
“Can he go to the World Cup? Of course, I think he can. Guys don’t necessarily have to play a lot of cricket before going there. I mean we’re talking about a gifted cricketer who can field, can bowl leg-spin, and has the power game to play spin in Indian conditions as well,” Peterson stated while talking to iol.co.za.
“Dewald’s talent is unparalleled. He basically won that eliminator (in the MLC) for us. You can now see the character is starting to develop alongside his talent. The closer those two merge, then we’re going to get a special player,” he added.
