After eight long years, Afghanistan has notched up their second World Cup victory. Their first taste of success came in the 2015 World Cup when they narrowly edged out Scotland by just one wicket. The wait for their second win has been a lengthy one, but it has finally arrived. In the initial innings, Afghanistan’s batsmen, having been asked to bat first, bravely faced England’s bowlers. Rahmanullah Gurbaz led the charge with an impressive 80 off 57 balls. Although a brief batting collapse occurred, Ikram Alikhil’s 58 from 66 balls, along with Rashid and Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s crucial contributions, allowed Afghanistan to post a competitive total of 284.
Subsequently, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb showcased their bowling prowess, leaving the English batsmen struggling to find a response. Harry Brook fought valiantly, but his innings came to an end after facing 61 balls and scoring 66 runs due to a brilliant delivery by Mujeeb.
