Pakistan Cricket Board is planning to send a Psychologist with their team who will be traveling to India for the World Cup 2023 to tackle the pressure.
During the upcoming ODI World Cup, scheduled to commence on October 5, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is seriously considering the idea of sending a team psychologist to India. The decision comes in light of the team’s lack of experience in playing in Indian conditions, and it is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.
The Pakistan cricket team, led by Babar Azam, anticipates facing considerable pressure during the tournament. With media attention and passionate fans in the stands, every move they make will carry significant weight.
Recognizing the potential impact of this pressure, PCB is convinced that having a psychologist in the dressing room will help keep the players calm and focused on their performance.
By providing support and guidance to the players, the psychologist’s presence aims to bolster the team’s mental strength, ensuring they can give their best on the field despite the challenging circumstances.
“Therefore, serious consideration is being given to appointing a psychologist. He will accompany the squad to the neighbouring country and help boost the players’ morale during crucial moments, protecting them from any fears,” a report in Cricket Pakistan mentioned.
Earlier, Pakistan had asserted that they would not participate in the forthcoming ODI World Cup unless they were granted the right to host the Asia Cup. Although the Asia Cup matter has been resolved, Pakistan has not yet confirmed its final decision concerning the mega tournament to be held in India.
“PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) has received positive signals through channels. Once security clearance is obtained, the team will travel across the border. There is also a possibility of sending a delegation to assess the current situation,” the report further added.
