The much-awaited ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is about to happen and all eyes are on India as they host this exciting competition. Kicking off on October 5th, the action opens with a battle between Defending champion England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Recently, Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis opened up about the tough task of going up against India in their very first encounter.
Both India and Australia are gearing up for an important challenge as they prepare to face each other in Chennai on October 8th. Starting off the tournament by going against each other with one of the top teams in world cricket, supporters can hardly wait for the exciting match that’s in store.
But it’s not just the home team that’s feeling the heat; the Australians are also gearing set to take on the hosts. With a little over a month to go before the World Cup gets off, the renowned Australian all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis, opened up on the arduous job of going up against India in their very first match.
“Leading into the tournament, we got a tour to India, where we played three ODIs, so the teams will know each other well. Being one of the first games of the tournament, playing each other early will help, and it will be a good chance for both sides to set the tone for the competition.
It’s a long World Cup, nine rounds, and I think that getting a few big wins early would be the way that everyone wants to start,” Marcus Stoinis said in an interview with Revsportz.
Moreover, when Stoinis was questioned about his perspective on the great Indian batting sensation, Virat Kohli, he reacted by underlining the paucity of players throughout cricket’s history who can equal Kohli’s remarkable skills. Stoinis stated his conviction in Kohli’s outstanding self-awareness as a player and effusively lauded him, characterizing Kohli as an extraordinary talent.
“His skills are as good as we have seen, probably forever in the history of cricket, but what sets him apart for me is that he brings his energy and passion to absolutely every game of cricket that he plays. He has figured out what his best version is in terms of performance, and it seems like he can channel and bring that energy every single game,” Stoinis said.
