Irfan Pathan, the former Indian all-rounder, has shared a deeply disturbing incident from his time playing cricket in Pakistan, which left a profound impact on him.
Irfan Pathan recently shared a troubling experience from his cricketing days, recounting an incident where a fan in the stands at Peshawar stadium hurled nails toward him, striking him just below his eyes. This unsettling event occurred during an ODI match while Pathan was positioned at the boundary. Pathan’s revelation came in the wake of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s concerns over crowd behavior during a recent match in Ahmedabad.
While providing commentary for the India vs. Bangladesh match in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Irfan Pathan shared a truly surprising revelation. He said, “We were playing a game in Peshawar when a fan suddenly threw an iron nail at me, which struck under my eye.”
Pathan discussed the Pakistan Cricket Board’s issues regarding the tough welcome got by the Pakistan squad from the passionate Ahmedabad fans last Saturday. In a face-off against tournament hosts India, Pakistan suffered a severe defeat, with India triumphing by 7 wickets. The crowd’s reaction towards the Pakistan side was notably unfriendly.
The PCB filed an official complaint, yet the ICC declined to take action, contending that the code of conduct pertains to individuals rather than groups. PCB was unable to furnish specifics regarding the incident they were protesting. Interestingly, Irfan Pathan later disclosed that they never made it a point of contention and rather relished the warm hospitality they experienced during the 2006 tour in Pakistan. It’s worth noting that the first ODI encounter between India and Pakistan experienced a temporary interruption for a similar reason.

Slamming PCB’s approach, Irfan Pathan said, “We never made an issue out of that and always appreciated their hospitality. Pakistan should stop making issues about crowd behavior in India.”
Irfan expressed his frustration with the Pakistan Cricket Board, accusing them of fueling negativity and crafting a misleading narrative for their own gain. The longstanding feud between PCB and BCCI has its roots in BCCI’s decision to avoid sending their team to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup, citing security concerns, and instead, they predominantly played their matches in Sri Lanka. The dominance of the Indian cricket team continued as they secured a 7-wicket victory over Pakistan in Ahmedabad during the World Cup.
