Shubman Gill, the promising young batsman from India, has been honored with the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for September. He earned this recognition for his exceptional batting performances during India’s triumphant Asia Cup journey and the ODI series against Australia that followed.
India’s rising cricket star, Shubman Gill, has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for September. This honor comes on the heels of his remarkable performances during India’s victorious Asia Cup campaign and the subsequent ODI series against Australia. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan legend Chamari Athapaththu has claimed the ICC Women’s Player of the Month title for her outstanding T20I batting and bowling contributions, which led to her team’s historic series win on English soil.
These accolades were determined through a combination of votes from cricket enthusiasts around the world at ICC-cricket.com and input from a distinguished panel that includes ICC Hall of Famers, former international players, and media representatives.
Shubman Gill’s cricket journey in 2023 has been nothing short of spectacular. He has seen a remarkable surge in the ICC Men’s ODI batting rankings, positioning him tantalizingly close to the August Player of the Month winner, Pakistan’s Babar Azam.
Throughout September, Gill was in scintillating form in ODI cricket. He commenced the month with impressive half-centuries against Nepal and Pakistan before crafting a stylish century against Bangladesh in Colombo, eventually guiding his team to the final. In the low-scoring championship decider, Gill held his ground and successfully steered his side to victory while chasing down a modest target of 51 runs.
Reacting to his award win, Gill said, “I am delighted to have won the ICC Player of the Month award for the month of September. It’s a great privilege to represent India at the international level and contribute to the team’s cause. This award will further motivate me to continue to seek excellence and make the country proud.
“I managed to make a handy contribution towards the team which had the fortune of winning the Asia Cup 2023 and then, following it up with an ODI series win against Australia in September. I take this opportunity to thank all my teammates, family, and the coaches, without whom this achievement would not have been possible.”

Gill secured his second Player of the Month award for 2023, outshining his fellow countryman Mohammed Siraj and England’s Dawid Malan. Both Siraj and Malan have shown exceptional performance in the shorter formats of international cricket in anticipation of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
