The legendary West Indies cricketer and expert Ian Bishop has shared his thoughts regarding India’s drought of ICC trophies. Keeping the 2023 World Cup in mind, Bishop has shared his thoughts on the current Indian team if they want to win the upcoming ICC tournament.
Despite their strong presence in International cricket, the Indian cricket team has encountered several challenges in translating their prowess into notable victories on the bigger stages. The last time India clinched an ICC title was in 2013, under the leadership of former captain MS Dhoni, when they had won the Champions Trophy in England.
Undoubtedly, India boasts an array of exceptionally talented players. Over the years, they have gathered global attention with their cricketing excellence and skills. Nevertheless, the achievement of an ICC title has remained unattained for more than a decade.
With the highly anticipated ODI World Cup 2023 on the horizon, commencing on October 5, former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop stepped forward to offer his insights into India’s quest for ICC glory. Bishop’s perspective revolves around the notion that India’s preparations leading up to the World Test Championship final against Australia may have fallen short, thereby impacting their performance.
“Hard to really pinpoint any one thing. The World Test Championship finals were played in England. And there’s an acclimatisation process, just a small example that you need when you go to England to compete well. And the two times they’ve made it, New Zealand were already playing Test cricket in England, and so they were ahead of the game. And then they encountered Australia there, and India had to fly in and turn things around in a short space of time,” Ian Bishop told OneCricket.
Furthermore, Bishop opined that Team India will need their pacers at the top of their game if they are looking to win ICC tournaments.
“The other thing is you need your fast bowling resources if you’re going to win ICC tournaments and trophies in the West. You need your group of fast bowlers to be healthy and functioning well. And if you combine that with the obvious batting talent, I think they’ll win one somewhere along the line. They just need to align all of those,” Bishop further added.
