During the match against Bangladesh at Pune’s MCA Stadium, India’s vice-captain and all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, unfortunately, sustained an ankle injury while delivering his very first over.
During the match against Bangladesh at the MCA Stadium in Pune, a concerning incident unfolded for Hardik Pandya. While he was bowling his first over, he encountered an ankle injury. It appeared that he twisted his ankle when attempting to block a straight drive from Litton Das with his foot during his follow-through.
In obvious discomfort, Pandya had to take a moment to receive attention from the team’s physio. Despite the physio’s efforts and about 5-7 minutes of treatment, Pandya bravely attempted to continue his over. Unfortunately, his injury hindered his ability to run properly, leading him to leave the field with a noticeable limp.
Following this setback, it was later announced that Pandya was taken to the hospital for necessary scans. He did return to the stadium during India’s batting innings, but luckily, his services weren’t required at the crease as Virat Kohli’s magnificent century guided India to a comfortable victory.
The BCCI has just shared a significant injury update regarding Hardik Pandya. Unfortunately, he won’t be able to participate in India’s upcoming match against New Zealand, scheduled for Sunday at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. Pandya has undergone scans, and he’ll be closely monitored by the medical team before rejoining the squad in Lucknow for India’s next game against England.
The BCCI said, “The all-rounder was taken for scans and is advised rest. He will be under the constant supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. He will not be taking the flight to Dharamsala with the team on 20th October and will now join the team directly in Lucknow where India play England.”
The good news for India and Hardik Pandya is that they will enjoy a much-needed 6-day break after their match against New Zealand. They will then face England on October 29th in Lucknow. This break gives Pandya roughly 9 days to recover from his injury. However, Hardik’s injury has created a challenge for Team India’s balance, as they may have to make two changes to the lineup that remained unchanged for the last two games.

One possible adjustment is to have either Suryakumar Yadav or Ishan Kishan step into Hardik’s role at number 6. Suryakumar Yadav is considered the stronger finisher between the two, so he’s the likely choice. Additionally, it’s expected that Mohammed Shami will take Shardul Thakur’s place as the primary seamer in the team.
