Harbhajan Singh, the former Indian cricketer, expressed his dismay at England’s poor performance in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup. He not only brutally criticized England’s approach but also slammed their batters for their intent.
After England’s disappointing performance in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh expressed his disappointment. His remarks came in the wake of England’s significant eight-wicket loss to Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on October 26.
Harbhajan questioned Jos Buttler’s leadership as the captain and the team management’s decision to recall Ben Stokes from retirement. He emphasized that the all-rounder has yet to make a significant impact in the matches he has participated in.
“Jos Buttler has never looked so clueless. Ben Stokes was asked to come out of retirement ahead of the World Cup but got injured. He has failed to make a significant impact in the matches he has played,” Harbhajan Singh said in his YouTube video.
He also expressed the opinion that England appeared to have lost their touch when it comes to batting in white-ball cricket. Furthermore, he commented that England doesn’t resemble a championship-worthy team in the current tournament.
“England loved to chase in white-ball cricket and had batters who only dealt in fours and sixes. However, forget about boundaries; they aren’t even sure of how to take singles. It seems as if they have forgotten how to play this format. They haven’t looked like world champions,” the former off-spinner added.
Harbhajan expressed his belief that England will find it challenging to end India’s undefeated streak when they face off at Lucknow’s Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on October 29. He also mentioned that the Indian team is inclined to field three spinners due to the spin-friendly nature of the Lucknow pitch.

“England’s next match is against India. I don’t think they are capable of beating India, and they will have to deal with yet another loss. I feel it might be a spin-friendly surface, and we could see India play three spinners,” the former cricketer concluded.
England found themselves in a tough spot, delivering a disappointing performance against Sri Lanka at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. In a league-round match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, England was bundled out for a mere 156 runs, and they managed to survive only 33.1 overs at the crease. This marks a new low for England, as they posted their lowest-ever ODI total at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and their worst performance against Sri Lanka in a World Cup match. On the flip side, Sri Lanka has made a remarkable comeback in the World Cup with a spirited display. They defeated the defending champions by 8 wickets.
