In a thrilling match at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Fakhar Zaman delivered an astonishing performance by smashing a record-breaking century for Pakistan. His incredible display of batting prowess not only gave Pakistan a strong start at Chinnaswamy but also posed a significant challenge to New Zealand’s hopes of making it to the semi-finals.
Fakhar’s blazing century propelled Pakistan to a score of 200 runs in just 25.3 overs before the rain interruption. Remarkably, they found themselves ahead by 21 runs according to the DLS par score calculation, and that helped them to defeat the Kiwis by a 21-run margin. Notably, Fakhar Zaman surpassed Imran Nazir’s previous record for the fastest century by a Pakistani batsman in the World Cup. It was Imran Nazir who had achieved a century in 95 balls during the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies, but Fakhar Zaman has now etched his name into the annals of World Cup history with this extraordinary feat.
Fakhar Zaman’s outstanding performance saw him score an impressive 126 runs from just 81 deliveries, a total that included eight boundaries and a remarkable eleven sixes. Throughout their chase, Zaman received excellent support from the team’s captain, Babar Azam. Together, they put on a partnership worth 194 runs, taking 143 balls to do so. Babar Azam, in the process, notched up yet another half-century in the tournament. It’s worth noting that Pakistan found themselves 21 runs ahead according to the DLS par score.

Earlier in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 tournament, Glenn Maxwell made quite a mark by achieving the fastest century in World Cup history, taking just 40 balls to reach the milestone. This remarkable feat shattered the previous record held by Aiden Markram, who had achieved a century in 49 balls during a match against Sri Lanka on October 8. Maxwell’s explosive performance came in a match against the Netherlands, where he etched his name in the record books. It’s worth noting that before the World Cup, the record for the fastest century had been held by Kevin O’Brien for an impressive 12 years, achieved in 50 balls.
