Eoin Morgan, the former England World Cup-winning captain, said that India are the strong contenders to win the upcoming edition of the World Cup to be played in India from October 5 to November 19.
Eoin Morgan, former captain of England’s cricket team, recently expressed his admiration for the Indian national cricket team and lauded the unwavering passion displayed by Indian cricket fans.
“The enthusiasm and passion displayed by Indian fans are unparalleled, which makes this special,” Morgan said in an interview with WION. This keen passion by the Indian fan base is something that Morgan acknowledges makes cricket matches in India a unique experience.
Apart from the fans, Morgan also had praise for the Indian cricket team, which he regarded as a strong contender for the 2023 World Cup, scheduled from October 5 to November 19 in India.
“The team has formidable skills, and can, indeed, be strong contenders in the upcoming World Cup. They also need to engage with and learn from the experiences of those who participated in the 2011 World Cup,” Morgan advised.
Morgan also expressed his belief that the 2023 ODI World Cup presents a “golden opportunity” for players. It’s a chance, he believes, to leave an indelible mark on one of the biggest stages in world cricket.
Reinforcing this sentiment, Morgan explained, “For some, the World Cup will be the stage to announce their arrival at the grandest level, while for others, it might mark the end of illustrious careers”.
Morgan further advocated for the popularization of the T10 format within cricket and says “In fact, the T10 format should also be considered, allowing cricket to expand its reach and inclusivity,” he stated. His robust endorsement of the format is likely to add further momentum to ongoing discussions in the world of cricket regarding its adoption.
