English all-rounder David Willey has decided to bid farewell to International cricket following the conclusion of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
The defending champions, England, have been experiencing a tough time in the current World Cup. They find themselves at the bottom of the rankings with just two points, having played six league games. It’s worth noting that David Willey will be waving farewell to international cricket, as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has elected not to grant him a central contract for the 2023-24 season.
In England’s recently unveiled central contracts for the upcoming cycle, David Willey did not secure a spot. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) also introduced a few alterations to their one-year contract cycle. Interestingly, David Willey, the sole member of the World Cup squad, had his name omitted from the list of contracted players. Following his participation in the 2023 World Cup in India, Willey revealed his decision to retire from international cricket.

David Willey further said, “I have worn the shirt with immense pride and given my absolute all to the badge on my chest. I am sure everybody who knows me does not doubt that, whatever my involvement in the remainder of this campaign, I will give my everything and more. That’s the only way I know.”
David Willey ventured into International cricket through his ODI debut in May 2015, facing Ireland. Since then, he has showcased his skills in 70 ODIs, claiming an impressive 94 wickets, and in 43 T20Is, where he secured 51 wickets.
