England’s excitement in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 got off to a less-than-ideal start as they were defeated by New Zealand at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium. To make matters worse, England’s premier all-rounder, Ben Stokes, will once again be absent from their forthcoming game.
Ben Stokes had to take a break from the game due to a hip issue, which kept him sidelined during England’s match against New Zealand. Unfortunately, England faced a significant setback, suffering a heavy 9-wicket defeat in their opening game. Last Wednesday, it was a spectacular display by Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra, who dismantled the English bowling attack. Captain Jos Buttler shared with the media during the pre-match press conference that Ben Stokes is on the road to recovery, but it’s unlikely that he’ll be able to participate in the upcoming match against Bangladesh. English captain Jos Buttler said, “It’s good to see him back in the nets and building back towards full fitness, but he’s probably unlikely for tomorrow.”
Ben Stokes appears to be preparing for a much-anticipated comeback on the international stage, with all indications that he will play Afghanistan on Sunday in Delhi. Stokes is an essential component of England’s middle-order lineup and a key member of their championship defense team.
English captain Jos Buttler had told the BBC that Stokes was getting better every day. Stokes’ return to the practice nets must, however, be encouraging news for the English team. England had Harry Brook step in for him while he was away. Brook, unfortunately, was only able to add 25 runs off 15 balls throughout his middle-overs performance. Now that Brook will be facing Bangladesh’s spinners, he will have another opportunity to make an impression.

England’s batting lineup faced a challenging day in Ahmedabad, but they’re hopeful for more familiar conditions in Dharmashala, which resemble those back home. England is considering bringing in an additional fast bowler in place of a spinner when facing Bangladesh. Unfortunately, Stokes’ injury has caused significant disruptions for England, especially in maintaining their well-balanced squad for the 2023 World Cup.
