Bangladesh’s promising fast bowler, Ebadot Hossain, won’t be able to compete in the highly awaited World Cup 2023 due to a knee ailment. This setback comes following his absence during the Asia Cup 2023, making him miss out on another important tournament.
The top fast bowler Ebadot Hossain unfortunately experienced an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in the ODI series against Afghanistan last month. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector, Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz on Wednesday that “He (Ebadot) will not be available for us in the World Cup.”
“It’s a big blow for us as he will require an operation for his knee. Following the operation he will certainly take some time for rehabilitation purposes, at least three to four months, so we cannot consider him for the World Cup,” he added.
As previously reported, Ebadot’s struggle against time to restore fitness for the World Cup has ended in disappointment, as he now faces the need for surgery owing to his injury. This terrible development has resulted in his expulsion from the tournament. Tanzim Sakib has stepped in to replace the pacer for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023. However, when it comes to the World Cup, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is facing a hard assignment in finding the proper alternative.
Although there are some feasible possibilities such as Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, and Shoriful Islam, stepping into Ebadot’s footsteps will prove to be an exceedingly demanding task. Ebadot’s unusual ability to bowl with outstanding speed and retain regulated length, especially during the important middle overs, sets him apart from the rest.
The news of Ebadot’s exit has placed a cloud of disappointment over Bangladesh’s head coach, Chandika Hathurusingha, and ODI captain, Shakib al Hasan. The 29-year-old fast bowler has compiled a record of 22 wickets in 12 ODI matches, boasting an impressive average of 5.6.
The setback provides a substantial hurdle for the team’s next ambitions, underscoring the large void left by Ebadot’s absence.
“It is very sad that Ebadot is not with us because he was an important part of our team, and taking that into consideration it is quite disappointing,” Shakib told reporters.
