Allan Donald, the legendary pace bowler from South Africa, is getting ready to say goodbye to his position as the pace bowling coach for Bangladesh after the ODI World Cup 2023.
Allan Donald is wrapping up his role as the pace bowling coach for the Bangladesh cricket team following the conclusion of their journey in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The decision follows Bangladesh’s exit from the World Cup semi finals contention, with their last league match against Australia set for this Saturday.
In a heartfelt team meeting, Donald shared with the players his decision to step down, as reported by Cricbuzz. A reliable source from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed this development.
“He told us in the team meeting that he won’t continue with us after this World Cup,” the official said.
Donald became a member of the BCB in March of the previous year, initially joining for the T20 World Cup in Australia. Due to his commendable performance in the role, his contract was later extended until the ODI World Cup in India.
The choice to separate from Donald is said to stem from the BCB’s inquiry into his remarks about Angelo Mathews’ timed-out dismissal. This inquiry was initiated despite Donald being a part of Bangladesh’s coaching staff, and the board sought an explanation from him regarding the comments.
“He had the option to share his personal views later. As a part of the team management, speaking about team decisions publicly violates the code of conduct. He could have discussed it within the team or directly with the player. Informing the BCB could have been done privately, not in public,” the official further added.
Speaking exclusively to CricBlog, Donald expressed his views on the time-out incident: “My immediate reaction when that happened, and this is just my instincts would have taken over, was that I almost actually thought of going on the field and saying, ‘Enough’s enough, we do not stand for this. We are not that kind of team who stand for this.’ That was my immediate thought.”

When asked about the issue, the 57-year-old appeared calm and unaffected. He shared that he isn’t worried about explaining the situation to the BCB. Stressing this, he repeated that any clarification the BCB might want has already been addressed in his earlier interview regarding the Shakib and Mathews incident.
Bangladesh’s journey in the World Cup 2023 has been rather disheartening, managing just two wins out of eight matches. Although they kicked off with a triumph against Afghanistan, they went through a tough phase, encountering six successive losses, ultimately dashing their hopes of making it to the semifinals.
