Pat Cummins, the captain of the Australian cricket team, pointed out that they’ve actually played more white-ball cricket matches in India than in their own homeland as they prepared for their first match in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup.
Australia will play India on October 8 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, and Pat Cummins has gushed over the team’s confidence going into this game. He thinks the kangaroos have a strong grasp of the circumstances. Even though they lost the three-match ODI series 2-1.
“We have played more white ball cricket in India than Australia in the last 10 years. We know the condition very well. The positive thing is that we have played some really good cricket against India in the last few years……We cannot take credit for the World Cup win of the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s,” Cummins said during the pre-match press conference in Chennai.
Pat Cummins expressed that the tournament seems like a two-month-long journey. The 30-year-old also shared his excitement about the event, emphasizing its special significance as his inaugural experience as captain in an ODI World Cup. The renowned fast bowler went on to discuss the potential difficulties they might encounter when playing against a team on their home turf.
“The most exciting thing about the World Cup is that it feels like a campaign. It is a journey to try to make a couple of months special. This is my first as a captain, it is really special.
The home crowd will be noisy and one-sided which is nothing new. It is always tough to play with the team-at-home crowd as fans will be cheering for them” Cummins said.
Australia has Travis Head suffering an injury in their 15-member squad. Travis Head won’t be available for at least the first half of the World Cup since he’s battling with a fractured hand. This injury occurred during the recent ODI series against Australia.
