The South African Women’s team is gearing up for an exciting tour as they prepare to kick off a multi-format series starting on January 27 in Australia.
South Africa is gearing up for a formidable challenge in early 2024 as they prepare to embark on a tour to Australia, featuring a solitary Test match, three T20Is, and an equal number of ODIs.
The Proteas Women’s team enters the white-ball segment against Australia with a buoyant spirit, following a drawn T20I series against Bangladesh and a victorious campaign in the three-match ODI series at home. Their recent performances underscore resilience and determination, setting the stage for an exhilarating showdown against the Aussies.
CSA has unveiled a robust 15-member squad for the white-ball series against Australia, with Chloe Tryon making a comeback to the international arena after recovering from a groin injury. Her inclusion injects depth and experience into the team. Adding to the excitement is the maiden call-up of Ayanda Hlubi to the ODI side. Hlubi, who left a strong impression with her T20I debut against Bangladesh, brings a dynamic and fresh element to the squad.
Leading the team will be Laura Wolvaardt, with a lineup boasting the experience of Marizanne Kapp, Nadine de Klerk, and Ayabonga Khaka. Although this trio featured in the ODI series against Bangladesh last month, they were absent from the T20Is.
Conspicuously, Annerie Dercksen, Nondumiso Shangase, Tumi Sekhukhune, and Lara Goodall, all part of the previous home series, have not found a spot in the squad for the Australia tour.
The squad also showcases established names like Marizanne Kapp, Sune Luus, Sinalo Jafta, and Tanzim Brits, creating a well-balanced blend of youth and experience. These players have demonstrated their prowess on the international stage and are expected to play pivotal roles in the upcoming series for the South African side.
“It’s a very competitive squad. It is a mixture of youngsters and experience, and everyone is looking forward to it. It was a very good year for us as a team in 2023, so we look forward to building on that. We touched on our skills regarding the white ball, where we are going, and what is required, so the selected squad is very well-balanced and competitive, and we are very confident going into Australia,” head coach Hilton Moreeng was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
