Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian Women’s cricket team, holds no remorse for her actions during the Bangladesh Series Controversy, despite being issued a 2-match suspension in the Asian Games 2023.
Harmanpreet Kaur has chosen to share her perspective on her recent actions. Kaur affirmed that she stands by her actions without any remorse, asserting that every player holds the rightful ability to convey their individuality.
Speaking to The Cricket Paper, Harmanpreet said:
“I will not say that I regret anything because at the end of the day as a player you want to see that fair things are happening. As a player you always have the right to express yourself and what you’re feeling,”
“I don’t think I said anything wrong to any player or any person. I just said what happened on the field. I don’t regret anything,” she further added.
In the 3rd ODI match between India Women and Bangladesh Women in Dhaka, there was a moment of disagreement involving Harmanpreet Kaur. Umpire Tanvir Ahmed declared her out leg-before-wicket, but the Indian captain stated she was unhappy with the judgment. Engaging in a debate with the umpire, Harmanpreet eventually exited the field.
Her irritation was clear as she tapped the stumps and voiced her dissatisfaction vocally to the umpire while making her way off the ground. Even as she headed back to the pavilion, Harmanpreet managed to salute the screaming throng with a thumbs-up gesture.
Later after the game, Kaur termed the umpiring standards as pathetic. She slammed the umpires and said:
“They (Bangladesh) batted really well, batted according to the situation. They were taking those singles which were very crucial. In between, we leaked a few runs but we controlled the game very well when we were batting, but as I mentioned earlier, some pathetic umpiring was done. We are really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires,” she said.
Harmanpreet Kaur will not participate in two matches of the upcoming Asian Games 2023
In addition to the demerit points, Harmanpreet also faced penalties equivalent to 50 percent and 25 percent of her match earnings for the two infractions. Consequently, the skipper won’t be able to participate in the initial two matches of the next Asian Games. The Asian Games are slated to commence on September 19 in Hangzhou, China.
