BCCI has announced the Indian women’s squad of 16 players is set to embark on a tour to Bangladesh, where the Indian team will engage in a series of five T20Is.
Sajeevan Sajana and Asha Sobahana received their first call-ups as the BCCI unveiled a 16-member squad for the Indian women’s upcoming tour to Bangladesh, featuring five T20Is beginning on April 28th. Unfortunately, Jemimah Rodrigues won’t be joining the squad due to a minor injury.
Leading the team will be Harmanpreet Kaur, with Smriti Mandhana serving as her deputy, indicating a consistent leadership core. However, the selectors have brought in some fresh faces for the tour.
One standout inclusion is Sajana Sajeevan, who impressed in the Women’s Premier League 2024 with stellar performances. The talented spin all-rounder’s efforts for Mumbai Indians Women and in domestic cricket have earned her a well-deserved spot.
With Rodrigues unavailable, there’s an opportunity for someone else to shine. Richa Ghosh and Yastika Bhatia will handle wicket-keeping duties, while Dayalan Hemalatha and Radha Yadav return to the squad, eager to reclaim their spots.
This series presents a valuable chance for the Indian team to prepare for the T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in Bangladesh later this year. Players will be keen to adapt to the conditions ahead of the tournament.
The India-Bangladesh series kicks off with the first match scheduled for the evening of April 28th, followed by the second clash on April 30th. These initial encounters will be under the floodlights. Moving on to the third and fourth matches, they’ll be held during the day at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, slated for May 2nd and May 6th respectively. Wrapping up the series will be the fifth and final match on May 9th, all games taking place at the same venue.
