Bangladesh Women defeated India Women by 40 runs (DLS method) in a rain-interrupted match where India failed to chase down a low total of 154 runs and got bundled out on just 113.
Bangladesh Women’s Team scripted history on Sunday as they defeated India Women in the first ODI following their first-ever big win against this Team in the ODI cricket, by securing a remarkable 40-run victory (DLS). Bangladesh Women’s Team did splendid work in their bowling department after scoring a low score, their bowlers dismantled the India Women’s batting order and never made them look comfortable in chasing this score.
Earlier in the game, after winning the toss India Women chose to field first, and their decision paid well as Bangladesh Women had lost their 2 wickets in the powerplay itself on a mere score of 14 runs. A brief rain delay reduced the match to 44 overs per side. Captain Nigar Sultana and Fargana Hoque then took control of their batting side and made a comfortable and respectable partnership of 49 for the third wicket. Amanjot Kaur who was making her debut, bowled some brilliant deliveries and never let Bangladesh Women’s batters score some big runs. Both Nigar and Fargana fell short of their runs and got out by Amanjot Kaur, their figures ended on 39 and 27 runs respectively.
After some promising scores from their middle over batters, Bangladesh Women managed to survive some collapse. Later, some crucial runs from their lower-order batters, Sultana Khatun and Fahima helped their team to reach 152 runs at the end of 43 overs.
From the bowling point of view, Amanjot Kaur the debutant sparkled with the ball, grabbing four crucial wickets in her debut match. Devika played her part well and took two wickets whereas Deepto got one.
Chasing a low target of 154, India Women’s Team got Collapsed at the start of their innings and never got a chance to rebuild it. Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur departed in the powerplay itself where Bangladesh Women kept their brilliant bowling spells. Priya Punia who was looking in good touch also failed to score big and departed in the early wickets. The only hope for the Indian side was their middle-order batters which include some big names like Yastika Bhatia and Jemimah Rodrigues who also got out at the crucial moment. Later Deepti and Amanjot Kaur added a surviving partnership of 30 runs for the 6th wicket but ended up losing their wickets.
From the very beginning, it felt like this was the day for Bangladesh Women’s Team as their bowlers were flying high, relentlessly building pressure on the Indian batters. Marufa Akhtar was the Star performer with an impressive haul of 4-wickets, while Rabeya Khan and Nahida also scalped one each. This day will go down as one of the most remarkable days in the history of the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team, it was a team effort from their side that helped to get this win.
