Cricket Australia unveiled their women’s squads for the upcoming white-ball series against South Africa.
Given their dominant performance against India, the Australian women’s cricket team has kept the same lineup for the next one-day international and Twenty20 international series against South Africa.
Australia wrapped up their tour of India on a high note, securing victories in both the ODI and T20I series. The eagerly awaited Test team announcement is scheduled for after the initial ODI in early February.
The Aussie leg-spinner, 28-year-old Alana King, is still sidelined from the T20I squad, as the Australian management continues to favor Georgia Wareham, who is just one wicket away from hitting the 50-mark in T20Is. Nonetheless, King remains a key part of the Australian ODI squad and will step in for the hard-hitting Grace Harris.
King hasn’t participated in Twenty20 Internationals since the group stage of last year’s World Cup in South Africa, despite having taken 21 wickets in 22 matches in this format.
Following a triumphant tour in India, the Australian side, led by Alyssa Healy, is gearing up to host South Africa in a series comprising three T20Is, three ODIs, and a lone Test match. The action kicks off with the T20I series in Canberra on January 27, and the Test squad is expected to be unveiled by Cricket Australia following the conclusion of the ODIs.
In the T20 leg, Canberra and Hobart will host the matches on January 27, 28, and 30, followed by the ODIs in Adelaide and Sydney on February 3, 7, and 10. The tour’s grand finale will be a one-off Test at the iconic WACA.
“As was the case for our home series against the West Indies in October, Grace Harris is part of the squad for the T20s only and will be replaced by Alana King for the ODIs. South Africa were formidable opponents in the 2023 ICC T20 World Cup Final in Cape Town and we look forward to the challenge of hosting the Proteas in multi-format series in Australia,” said CA’s Head of Performance (Women’s Cricket) and National Selector, Shawn Flegler.
