AB de Villiers dropped a significant hint about the imminent comeback of Virat Kohli to the cricketing scene.
Virat Kohli’s last appearance in competitive cricket was marked by a duck in a T20I match against the Afghanistan National Cricket Team at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium on January 17, 2024.
Since then, he has been absent from the cricket scene. Initially withdrawing from India’s squad for the first two Tests against the England National Cricket Team, there were expectations of his return for the later part of the series. Surprisingly, Kohli extended his break and didn’t make himself available for the last three Tests as well. The reason for his prolonged absence was initially disclosed by his close friend AB de Villiers, and later Kohli himself explained the decision to take an extended break from his beloved format of the game.
On February 20, Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma shared the joyous news on social media – they welcomed a baby boy named Akaay into their lives.
In a recent YouTube video, the iconic South African batsman AB de Villiers dropped a clue regarding Virat Kohli’s comeback. When asked about his plans to return to Bengaluru to support the RCB franchise, De Villiers shared that Kohli extended an invitation for him to spend some quality time in the city.
“Nothing is confirmed yet,” de Villiers said about his return to RCB.
“Virat Kohli has hinted that he might want me to come over just to spend a bit of time with him and some of the batter perhaps. I think the call has got to come from Andy Flower, Faf and the team. But for now, I am just going to be in Mumbai for the first few weeks of the IPL and doing a bit of commentary so do watch our live streams. I will also be back at the backend for the knockouts,” he further said.
Virat Kohli had an outstanding performance with the bat during the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), amassing an impressive total of 639 runs in 14 matches. His batting average stood at an astonishing 53.25, accompanied by a striking strike rate of 139.82. Kohli also showcased his prowess by scoring 2 centuries and 6 half-centuries in the tournament.
Looking ahead, the upcoming IPL season in 2024 is scheduled to kick off on March 22. The opening encounter will feature the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), facing off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Chennai.
