In the IPL auction held in Dubai last year, Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Pat Cummins for a whopping INR 20.5 crore.
Cricbuzz reports suggest that Sunrisers Hyderabad is inclined towards entrusting leadership responsibilities to Pat Cummins. The Australian captain was brought into the team for a whopping INR 20.5 crore during the last auction held in Dubai.
In the upcoming IPL season, Pat Cummins is set to replace Aiden Markram as the team’s captain. Markram led the squad in the previous two seasons but couldn’t achieve the desired success in his captaincy stint.
Aiden Markram, the current SRH captain, has been at the helm for the past two seasons, but unfortunately, the team hasn’t seen much success. The franchise finished in the 8th position in 2022 and experienced a disappointing 10th-place finish in 2023 without any signs of improvement. On the bright side, Markram, who also captains the South African T20I team, has had a different story with the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Leading them to back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024 has been a remarkable achievement for him.
Pat Cummins, much like Markram, hasn’t experienced significant success in T20 cricket. The fast bowler has not had the opportunity to captain the T20I team so far.
Since joining Sunrisers Hyderabad, the anticipation has been that Pat Cummins would assume leadership duties based on his recent success as the captain of the Australian cricket team. Cummins has played a pivotal role in transforming Australia into a formidable force in Test cricket, achieving victory in the World Test Championship (WTC) and the ICC World Cup 2023.
The reports also mention that Cummins’ successful partnership with franchise head coach Daniel Vettori during their time with the Australian national team has bolstered his chances of being named captain. The IPL will be a platform to observe how Cummins fares as a leader, bringing his recent captaincy achievements to the T20 format.
