Virat Kohli praised the young Team India squad for their impressive comeback to win the Test series against England, especially after trailing 0-1 initially.
The Indian Team put up a tough fight to secure a five-wicket victory in Ranchi on Day 4 of the match, establishing an insurmountable 3-1 lead in the five-game series.
Despite England being with a solid first-innings total and reducing India to 177/7, Dhruv Jurel’s resilient innings prevented the visitors from gaining a significant lead.
In the second innings, India exhibited their tenacity. Firstly, they triggered a collapse, dismissing England from 110/3 to 145 all out, and then, with the bat, they chased down the 192-run target to claim the win.
After Team India sealed the deal in Ranchi, securing their unbroken 12-year streak of home series victories, Virat Kohli took to Twitter to share his thoughts.
“YES!!! (Indian Flag). Phenomenal series win by our young team. Showed grit, determination and resilience,” Kohli tweeted in his first cricket-related comments after making himself unavailable for the Test series.
Kohli’s absence was hard to ignore throughout the series, which proved to be intensely competitive and unforgettable. Initially included in the squad and present with his teammates in Hyderabad before the series opener, Kohli surprisingly pulled out on the same day and remained absent for the entire series.
Despite various speculations surrounding his extended absence, all doubts were put to rest when the player revealed that he withdrew due to the joyous occasion of the birth of his second child, Akaay.
During the match, India found themselves in a tough spot as they stumbled to 120-5 after starting well at 84 for no loss on day 4. Nonetheless, Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel, the young pair, showed impressive determination. They stitched together a vital partnership of 72 runs for the sixth wicket, steering India to a remarkable win on the second last day of the Test match.
