Contrary to what some believed, Matheesha Pathirana wasn’t actually seeking blessings from former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni.
Fans of MS Dhoni and CSK found themselves under scrutiny recently after a viral video claimed that Matheesha Pathirana, the young Sri Lankan bowler, touched Dhoni’s feet before bowling during a CSK vs GT game. However, a closer look at the footage revealed a different story.
Initially, the video showed Pathirana seemingly bowing to Dhoni during a drinks break, with fans suggesting he sought blessings for his upcoming over. But a different angle provided a clearer picture. From behind, it was evident that Pathirana was actually picking up the bowling mark, not touching Dhoni’s feet. Dhoni’s gesture of raising his hand was misinterpreted as approval, but he was merely indicating Pathirana’s fielding position.
A few days after the match, a new video surfaced from a different angle, providing clear evidence that Pathirana was picking up the white bowling marker near MS Dhoni’s wicket-keeping spot.
This video, shared by a fan on social media, sparked criticism towards those who claimed Pathirana had touched Dhoni’s feet seeking blessings.

Pathirana, making his IPL debut for the season after missing a previous match due to injury, went on to take a crucial wicket. The incident serves as a reminder to be cautious about interpreting viral content, especially when it comes to idolizing sports personalities like Dhoni.
Pathirana also wrapped up the game as CSK’s third most economical bowler, following behind Deepak Chahar and Tushar Deshpande, who achieved figures of 2/28 and 2/21 with economies of 7 and 5.25 respectively. Chennai’s impressive performance with the ball led them to a 63-run victory over the Titans, maintaining their flawless win record intact.
Chennai Super Kings, under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, are getting ready for their upcoming match against Delhi Capitals. This time, they’re playing away at the ACA-VDCA stadium in Vishakhapatnam.
