Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have announced Shamar Joseph as the replacement for Mark Wood in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have added West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph for the upcoming edition, signing him for a noteworthy INR 3 crore. This marks Joseph’s inaugural participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Having recently debuted for the West Indies in the Test series against Australia, he played a pivotal role in his team’s triumph at the Gabba, showcasing his exceptional bowling skills.
Joseph’s rapid ascent soared to new heights during West Indies’ recent triumph at the Gabba against Australia. The speedster demonstrated his skills by grabbing an impressive seven-wicket haul in the second innings, leading West Indies to a historic victory Down Under. This significant accomplishment has thrust Joseph into the limelight, earning him praise as a key player in Caribbean cricket.
Debuting against Australia, Joseph made an immediate impact by dismissing none other than Steven Smith with his first Test delivery. Despite West Indies’ defeat in Adelaide, Joseph’s spirited performance set the stage for his remarkable heroics in the following match at the Gabba. In the upcoming season, Joseph is set to make his debut in the IPL, where his raw pace and unwavering determination are expected to make waves.
Mark Wood’s departure, necessitated by familial commitments during the previous season, opens the door for Joseph to shine on the IPL stage. Wood’s time with the Lucknow Super Giants in the 2023 IPL season showed glimpses of brilliance but was marked by inconsistency and selection dilemmas.
During the IPL 2024 auction in December last year, the Lucknow-based franchise invested heavily to strengthen their pace attack. LSG secured Shivam Mavi for INR 6.4 crore and also added David Willey and Arshad Khan to bolster their pace-bowling options. Shamar is anticipated to further enhance their pace attack in the IPL 2024, following a memorable start to red-ball cricket.
