After much anticipation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finally unveiled the schedule for the 2024 Indian Premier League on Thursday, February 22.
The initial release of the schedule included only the first 21 fixtures, with the rest of the schedule awaiting the General Elections 2024 announcement.
To kick off their title defense, Chennai Super Kings will face Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday, March 22, at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Following the opener, fans can look forward to a weekend filled with doubleheaders. The second game on March 23 features Punjab Kings against Delhi Capitals in Mohali, followed by an evening clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The first mega Sunday of the season will bring two exciting matchups: Rajasthan Royals versus Lucknow Super Giants at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, and later in the evening, five-time champions Mumbai Indians taking on Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Despite earlier speculations about relocating the tournament due to the elections, the BCCI has made significant efforts to keep the competition in India, allowing fans to enjoy the games on their favorite teams’ home grounds.
In the upcoming IPL 2024, ten teams are set to vie for glory: Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The reigning champions are the Chennai Super Kings, who clinched their fifth title by defeating Gujarat Titans in the final last year.
As the IPL approaches, both Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians harbor the ambition of making history by becoming the first team to secure a sixth tournament victory for the first time in IPL history.
The IPL 2024’s initial schedule has been unveiled by the BCCI, covering the first 17 days from March 22 to April 7. This segment includes 21 matches, featuring 4 double-headers. The remaining schedule will be disclosed by the governing body after the General Election dates are announced by the Election Commission of India.
