Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli crossed paths for the first time since their well-known clash during the last IPL 2023 season when Royal Challengers Bangalore faced Lucknow Super Giants.
Last year, there was quite a showdown between Virat Kohli and Lucknow Super Giants’ fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq during a match. Things escalated even further after the game, when Kohli and Naveen got into a heated argument, with Gautam Gambhir stepping in. Gambhir, who was mentoring LSG at the time, wasn’t pleased with Kyle Mayers chatting with Kohli and intervened, pulling Mayers away.
This led to a confrontation between Kohli and Gambhir, former teammates for India until other players intervened to separate them. Fast forward to Friday, and Kohli and Gambhir found themselves on the same field again for the first time since that incident. And it seems like they’ve put their differences aside.
In the 10th match of IPL 2024 where RCB is facing KKR, an incident happened which grabbed everyone’s attention. During a timeout in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s innings, there was a touching moment. Gambhir walked onto the field and exchanged words with Kohli, who then approached the former cricketer and they shared a hug.
During the brief break after the 16th over, Kohli and Gambhir embraced warmly, exchanging a few words and smiles. Kohli took a sip of water while chatting with his teammate, and Gambhir passed by, offering a hug. Throughout their interaction, Kohli wore a smile, and after a short conversation, the Indian cricket legend headed back to the KKR dugout.
In their home match on Friday, RCB were invited to bat first but suffered an early blow as their captain, Faf du Plessis, fell victim to KKR’s Harshit Rana and his deceptive slower delivery. However, Virat Kohli found stability partnering with Cameron Green, and together they built a solid 65-run partnership for the second wicket. Glenn Maxwell then joined Kohli, contributing to a 42-run stand as they pushed the score higher. Kohli’s half-century came in just 36 balls, marked by two boundaries and three massive sixes. Notably, the camera caught a somber-looking Gautam Gambhir in the dugout amidst Kohli’s aggressive batting.
RCB concluded their innings at 182-6, with Kohli remaining unbeaten on 83 off 59 balls. Dinesh Karthik played a crucial role in steering RCB to this total, showcasing his importance in the team’s batting lineup.
