Ravi Shastri brutally trolled Joe Root during Day 3 of the Rajkot Test, highlighting the amusing fact that Root seemed to be enjoying more success and involvement as a bowler rather than a batsman in the ongoing series.
Joe Root is experiencing a challenging Test series with the bat, struggling to make an impact in five innings. His total runs tally stands at a mere 70, averaging just 14. Unfortunately, he hasn’t crossed the 30-run mark even once in this series. On the flip side, Root has taken on a significant bowling role and performed admirably in that aspect. However, his batting struggles have undeniably contributed to England’s current predicament in the ongoing Rajkot Test.
Despite facing challenges in his batting performance, the 33-year-old has managed to leave a mark with the ball in the ongoing series, securing seven wickets with an average of 42.14. In the initial innings in Hyderabad, he claimed four wickets for 79 runs, although he couldn’t reproduce that level of success in the following innings.
During the commentary of the India-England Test match on Saturday, February 17th, Ravi Shastri highlighted Joe Root’s batting difficulties, noting that the English cricketer had bowled more overs than he had scored runs throughout the series.
“Joe Root has bowled 89 overs in this Test series which is more than the runs he scored,” Ravi Shastri said during India’s second innings.
On Day 2’s end, Root could only muster an additional nine runs to his overnight tally. Falling victim to Bumrah once again represented the third occurrence in this series and the ninth in his overall career, emphasizing his persistent problem against the tough pacer.
The 33-year-old batsman kicked off the series with a quick 29-run effort in Hyderabad, only to grapple with two single-digit scores in the subsequent innings. His difficulties persisted in Vishakapatnam, contributing just 16 runs during England’s pursuit, resulting in a hefty 106-run defeat.
On Day 3, India’s bowlers orchestrated a stunning comeback, proving resilient even in the absence of R Ashwin. England, starting the day at 207/2, was eventually bundled out for 319. Mohammed Siraj spearheaded the bowling attack with figures of 4/84, complemented by two wickets each from Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja.
