Former South African captain AB de Villiers shared the actual reason why Virat Kohli was not present for the first two Test matches against England.
After Indian batsman Virat Kohli withdrew from the first two Tests against England, AB de Villiers revealed on Saturday that he had contacted Kohli. According to De Villiers, Kohli is doing well and spending time with his family. Also, he delighted his audience by revealing that Virat and Anushka Sharma are expecting their second child.
Notably, Kohli was a member of the squad for the first two Tests, but he withdrew prior to the match in Hyderabad, stating personal reasons.
De Villiers spilled the beans while chatting with fans on his YouTube channel. When a fan asked about how Kohli was doing after pulling out of the first two Tests against England and if there was a chance of him making a comeback for the last three matches, De Villiers shared the inside scoop.
“All I know is he is fine. He is spending a bit of time with his family, that is the reason he is missing the first two Test matches. I am not going to confirm anything else. I cannot wait to see him back. He is fine, he is doing well,”
To offer more clarity on his revelation, De Villiers started sharing the text messages exchanged with Kohli.
“Let me just see what he said. I just want to at least give you a little bit of love,” he added. “So I wrote to him ‘Been wanting to check in with you for a while now biscuits. How are you?’. He said ‘Just need to be with my family right now. I am doing well’.
“The BCCI requests the media and fans to respect Virat Kohli’s privacy during this time and refrain from speculating on the nature of his personal reasons. The focus should remain on supporting the Indian cricket team as they embark on the upcoming challenges in the Test series,” he further added.
De Villiers explained the reason behind Kohli’s absence but didn’t mention whether Kohli would return for the final three matches against England. If talking about the ongoing series between India vs England then England secured a 28-run victory in the first Test in Hyderabad, with Ollie Pope’s outstanding performance playing a key role in giving the visitors the lead in the series.
