India maintained their unbeaten streak in the 2024 T20 World Cup with another commanding performance, defeating the reigning 50-over world champions, Australia, at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia, on Monday. Rohit Sharma’s explosive innings of 92, combined with an impressive display from the bowlers, secured a 24-run victory for India.
On Monday, June 24, Rohit Sharma struck another great innings that took India to a binding total against Australia in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match.
The Indian captain led from the front as he played perhaps one of the best innings by an Indian in the T20 World Cup. Sharma, in his explosive 92-run innings, helped India post their highest score in the event so far at a commanding 205 for 5 at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium here in Gros Islet, St Lucia.
After a nervy start, in which Josh Hazlewood got Virat Kohli to duck off five balls in the second over, Sharma soon hit his straps. If anything, he signaled his aggressive intent with four sixes and a four off Mitchell Starc in the next over, setting the tone for what turned out to be a remarkable inning.
The first half of the Indian innings belonged to Rohit Sharma, who reached his fifty in a mere 19 balls, also in the fifth over – it was the fastest half-century of the current T20 World Cup. He finally fell to Starc, bowled in the 12th over, but until then, his 41-ball 92, laced with seven fours and eight sixes, had put India on a sound footing.
Though Sharma fell short of a well-deserved century, his craft knocks ensured many achievements and placed India in a commanding position. The “Rohit Sharma show” not only boosts the total but also increases his immeasurable leadership and batting skills
