The BCCI has just revealed India’s T20 World Cup squad, and it’s buzzing with excitement over the comeback of wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant and the presence of Virat Kohli.

The Indian cricket world was abuzz with excitement as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled the squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in the USA and the Caribbean this June. Leading the charge will be Rohit Sharma, with Hardik Pandya serving as his deputy. Notably, Yuzvendra Chahal marked his return to the squad after a hiatus, thanks to his stellar performances in the IPL 2024. However, there was disappointment for Rinku Singh as he found himself omitted from the team, though named among the reserves.
The inclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal and Shivam Dube, earning his maiden World Cup call-up, garnered attention. Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant were entrusted with the wicketkeeping duties, while Hardik Pandya assumed the role of vice-captain. Axar Patel joined the spin department, complementing Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Chahal. Additionally, the pace battery, led by Jasprit Bumrah, saw reinforcements in Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj.
The BCCI also revealed a list of four reserve players – Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed – who would accompany the squad. Departing for the USA on May 21, the team aimed for glory in the tournament.
A pivotal decision revolved around the selection of wicketkeeper-batsmen, with Samson securing his spot alongside Pant, courtesy of his standout performances for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. This choice meant the likes of KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan missed out.
Shivam Dube’s inclusion over Rinku Singh raised eyebrows, given Singh’s consistent T20I performances in the past year. However, Dube’s exceptional form in the IPL 2024 seemingly swayed the selectors in his favor, emphasizing the importance of current form in selection decisions.
The excitement ramps up as the T20 World Cup gets underway on June 2, and all eyes are on India as they gear up for their first match against Ireland in New York on June 5. After facing some tough hurdles recently, the team is eager to turn things around and aim for glory in this much-awaited tournament.
