Cricket South Africa has announced their women’s squad for the white-ball series against Pakistan. They also dropped Sune Luus as the skipper of the national side. Notably, Cricket South Africa management are looking for someone new way for the same role and could also make sure the requirement of articles may get delivered.
Meanwhile, in a different development, Chloe Tryon, a batting all-rounder, has opted out of the upcoming series. She formally requested a break, which Cricket South Africa has approved. Annerie Dercksen is also absent from the series due to ongoing recovery from a finger injury. However, it’s worth noting that 12 out of the 15 players were key members of South Africa’s T20 World Cup squad. As a result, they are eager to leave an impact during this series.
Clinton du Preez, the convenor of selectors for the women’s cricket team at CSA, explained that the selection strategy focuses on maintaining a core group of players while also offering opportunities to individuals like Mieke de Ridder. De Ridder’s inclusion addresses the wicket-keeper position, adding depth to the team’s resources.
“The core of the squad has remained together post the World Cup and we have a few additions to ensure that we address certain shortcomings in the squad.”
“This is also an opportunity for players like Mieke de Ridder to come in and cover the area of wicket-keeper on the back of a great season provincially and also through the winter” at the CSA National Academy.
“Nondumiso is also returning on the back of a good season after being out of the squad for a while and is now an option when going to the subcontinent, where the additional spinner adds balance to the squad, which is what we require,” Preez was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
