In a recent update, Shah Khawar has been appointed to the role of interim chairman at the PCB.
In a recent development, Shah Khawar, who serves as the Election Commissioner of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has been named as the acting chairman of the PCB. This declaration came after Shah Khawar took on the duties of acting chief of the board on Wednesday.
Zaka Ashraf resigned as the head of the PCB Management Committee after the team’s poor setbacks against Australia and New Zealand. In the aftermath of his departure, interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar selected Mohsin Naqvi to oversee the PCB.
However, Shah Khawar officially took the post at the PCB headquarters in Lahore on Wednesday. The seasoned lawyer will keep the seat until the next Board elections. Meanwhile, Mohsin Naqvi will continue to execute his responsibilities as a member of the PCB governing committee.
As per Clause 2 of Article 7 of the PCB Constitution, when the Chairman position becomes vacant, all powers are handed to the Chief Election Commissioner. The Commissioner is constitutionally mandated to finish the board election process within four weeks, guaranteeing that the elected chairman enters office within a week.
The caretaker Prime Minister, Anwar ul Haq Kakar, has accepted Zaka Ashraf’s resignation as per the decision of PCB’s patron-in-chief.
“My primary responsibility will be to hold the election of Chairman PCB in a free and transparent manner at the earliest,” Khawar said in a statement.
After Zaka Ashraf resigned as Chairman of the Interim Management Committee, which the government had appointed in July to oversee board affairs, two notifications were issued. The committee’s extended term is set to conclude on February 5.
As a nominee directly chosen by the patron-in-chief, Mohsin Naqvi is eligible to participate in the elections for the Chairman’s position, provided it occurs during the tenure of the acting chairman and the election commissioner.
