After dedicating a significant nine-year stretch of his post-international cricket career, former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond has decided to part ways with the Mumbai Indians. Bond had been an integral part of the Mumbai Indians as their bowling coach.
Shane Bond had a long-standing affiliation with the MI setup, where he also participated in multiple games for the Indian Premier League team. He took up the post of head coach for MI’s sister team, MI Emirates, in the International League T20.
During Shane Bond’s term as the Bowling coach, the Mumbai Indians claimed four IPL titles in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. This incredible era of success for MI began in the 2015 IPL season.
In the following seasons, another MI icon, Lasith Malinga, will be stepping into Bond’s shoes. Malinga is slated to join the MI camp in 2024, following his work as a bowling consultant for the Rajasthan Royals in the last three IPL seasons.
Before departing from MI, Shane Bond thanked MI and the Ambani family for the opportunity. Bond said, “I would like to thank the Ambani family for the opportunity to be part of MI One Family for the last nine seasons. It has been an incredible experience with so many great memories on and off the field.” Bond is considered one of the finest pacers in World Cricket.
Shane Bond also expressed that he will be missing the MI Paltan atmosphere. He added, “I have been lucky enough to work with and have strong relationships with so many great people, both players and staff. I will miss them all and wish them all the best for the future. Finally thanks to the MI Paltan for their support as well.” Bond has been credited for giving their biggest gift in Pace bowling as Jasprit Bumrah.
