MS Dhoni, the skipper of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has given fans an update on his knee injury, which occurred during the IPL 2023 season. He has confirmed that he underwent surgery for his knee and shared his intentions to participate in one final season of the IPL in 2024 before bidding farewell to the sport.
Following the conclusion of IPL 2023, Dhoni underwent surgery in Mumbai, and it’s been at Ranchi’s JSCA stadium facilities that he’s been on the road to recovery. After securing their fifth title, CSK fans received Dhoni’s heartfelt appreciation for their unwavering support and admiration. Regarding his retirement, Dhoni acknowledged that this could be the perfect moment to step down but expressed his desire to grace the field for one more season.
He had mentioned earlier, “Circumstantially, it’s the best time to announce retirement. The easy thing for me is to say thank you and retire. But the amount of love I have received from CSK fans, it would be a gift for them to (see me) play one more season.”
During an event in Bengaluru on Thursday, the 42-year-old Indian cricket star shared positive news about the success of his recent knee surgery and his smooth recovery progress, with no complications. He mentioned that medical experts have provided assurance that he’ll be in much better shape by November. Currently, Dhoni is actively engaged in a physical therapy regimen to restore his fitness.
In the midst of the event, an interviewer broached the topic of MS Dhoni’s retirement from cricket, to which another participant quickly interjected, clarifying that it pertained to international cricket. In response, Dhoni responded with a smile, concurring with the correction, prompting a round of applause from the audience.

The interviewer started asking his question with: “Now that you have retired from cricket..”, To this the other panelist interrupted, saying: “From international cricket…”. And Dhoni immediately agreed with the interruption.
Dhoni said, “Knee has survived the operation, going through the rehab phase. The doctor told me you would feel much better by November. But no problem in day-to-day routine.”
Dhoni emphasized that his foremost aspiration was to leave a legacy as a kind-hearted individual, not solely as an exceptional cricketer.
He stated, “You know, right from the start, I was not into that people should remember me as a good cricketer. I always said, you know, I want to be remembered as a good human being. You know, and if you want to be a good human being, it’s a process till you die.”
