Former England international cricketer Ian Bell has backed his former teammate James Anderson to excel in India, which is scheduled to begin on January 25 next year.
Ian Bell, the former England cricketer, has expressed his support for his ex-teammate James Anderson’s upcoming performance in India. The England team, led by Ben Stokes, is scheduled to engage in a five-match series on January 25 of the following year on Indian soil. The spotlight turned to Anderson after his fellow experienced fast bowler, Stuart Broad, announced his retirement. People were curious if Anderson would make a similar decision.
In a clear statement, the 41-year-old quashed any notion of retirement and affirmed his commitment to representing England in the foreseeable future. Bell also highlighted Anderson’s potential as a dependable choice when handling the dry ball conditions in India. Furthermore, Bell emphasized that Anderson’s wealth of experience could also serve to mentor the emerging generation of English pace bowlers.
“One player England don’t need to worry about losing just yet is James Anderson. Just because Stuart has retired doesn’t make him more likely to follow suit in my opinion. England will need his experience in India, not to mention that reliability to bowl dry. He will have a big job helping this next England seam attack develop,” Bell said while talking to Betfair.
Bell advises England to Play Smartly in India
In the recently concluded Ashes 2023 against Australia, England faced an initial setback by losing the first two matches of the series. However, they orchestrated a turnaround by adjusting their approach, claiming victory in three out of the last five matches.
Reflecting on this, Ben Stokes, the captain of the England cricket team, revealed that they made slight modifications to their Bazball strategy, which ultimately led to their success.
Ian Bell, sharing his perspective, also anticipates that England will need to display shrewdness and adaptability when they confront India. He envisions that the Bazball strategy could prove effective against India as well, yet he remains mindful of the potential challenges that the team might encounter.
“As Ben Stokes said in the press conference the other day, he’s been asked whether Bazball would work against Pakistan, South Africa, Australia. So, yes, it will be used in India. But it will be an adapted Bazball. That’s what was so good about the Ashes. England showed they could learn and adapt as the series went on. In India they will need to be smart,” Bell added.
