The England test cricket team’s head coach, Brendon McCullum, highlighted the significant obstacle that England will face in the forthcoming test series against India. Speaking to an audience of international sporting stakeholders at the RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet India in Bengaluru, he expressed these ideas.
Brendon McCullum, England’s Test coach, shared his thoughts on the upcoming Test series against India, acknowledging the formidable challenge that lies ahead. McCullum emphasized that facing the best team in the world would truly test the Bazball approach that has set England apart under the leadership of Ben Stokes and himself.
Having achieved remarkable success in Test cricket and remaining undefeated in series, England has carved its niche, making top teams appear clueless with their distinctive Bazball style. However, the impending tour of India poses the most significant challenge yet. Playing against India in their home conditions is a formidable task, considering India’s prowess on their own turf.
Despite a recent drawn series against Australia, England showcased high-quality cricket, maintaining their aggressive approach. The expectation is that they will continue this style of play in India. A series win would arguably elevate them to the title of the world’s best team. McCullum expressed his excitement about the upcoming series, highlighting the desire to emerge victorious. Importantly, even in the event of a loss, England is committed to going down while playing the Bazball approach.
Brendon McCullum expressed a sense of anticipation and readiness for the test that lies ahead for Bazball, “We have got a huge challenge against a very good Indian team in five tests in India. I am excited about it because you want to test yourself against the best side and I genuinely believe that India is the best in their own condition. It is going to be a good challenge for us. If we have success then fabulous, if we don’t then I know we will go down in the style that we want to go down.”
“I have been invited here to come and share some more stories about leadership. But the opportunity to oversee and rub shoulders with other leaders that have some similarly shared experiences is what you are after as a leader. You are always trying to grow and evolve and this week has been simply fabulous,” shared Brendon McCullum while talking about the significance of the first-of-its-kind summit that brought together influential leaders from various sectors of the sports industry.

Brendon McCullum emphasized England’s triumph through an assertive style of cricket. He mentioned how certain players in their squad have recognized and tapped into their capabilities, expressing his satisfaction with their progress.
He further said: “During the time that you are in the chair, you want to make sure you enjoy it and you shouldn’t wait till the end of your career to do so. We are very lucky that we have had some immediate success but I don’t think it is the ceiling for us. I think we have seen some guys who have unlocked their potential in the last 18 months or so and that’s what the job is as a leader; to get the most out of the people that you’re in charge of.”
The India vs. England Test series is set to begin on January 25th in Hyderabad. Matches will also be held in Vishakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamsala.
