Karachi Kings, a franchise in the PSL, faced a significant blow when reports from Geo News on Thursday indicated that 13 players from the team are dealing with food poisoning.
Karachi Kings faced a significant setback when 13 of their players fell ill with food poisoning during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9. Reports revealed that one player’s condition worsened, leading to their hospitalization. The news surfaced just before the Kings’ fifth match against Quetta Gladiators on Thursday, February 29.
In a noticeable absence, star players James Vince and Daniel Sams were sidelined from Wednesday’s match against Islamabad United due to stomach issues, resulting in a seven-wicket loss. Head coach Phil Simmons also reportedly experienced health problems.
Despite these challenges, the home team’s management assured that they would field a robust team against the Gladiators at the National Stadium. While English batsman Vince returned to the lineup, all-rounder Sams remained sidelined for the crucial match under the leadership of Shan Masood.
There were additional reports of a player’s serious condition, prompting their transfer to a local hospital. The news has not been well-received by several overseas players participating in PSL 2024, adding to the concerns surrounding the ongoing season.
“The players didn’t get ill after ordering food from outside the hotel since that was not allowed,” a source added.
The management of Karachi Kings is optimistic about assembling a playing XI for their upcoming match against Quetta Gladiators at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on Thursday, February 29.
In the ongoing season, Karachi Kings have participated in four games, securing victories in two against Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars while facing defeats in the other two encounters. Unfortunately, their latest match against Islamabad United on February 28 ended in a loss.
During the last game, Karachi Kings batted first, posting a score of 165/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Despite a challenging start from the openers, Kieron Pollard’s brisk 48 runs played a crucial role in securing the win with overs to spare. This defeat marked only the second for Islamabad United in this PSL season.
The Kings commenced their season with a 55-run loss to Multan Sultans, revealing a lack of consistency. Currently positioned in fifth place on the points table, they aim to improve their performance and climb the rankings in the upcoming matches.
