Despite facing challenges during the IPL 2024 season, Hardik Pandya managed to secure a place in the Indian cricket team’s squad for the upcoming T20I World Cup 2024.

After being named vice-captain for India’s T20 World Cup squad alongside Rohit Sharma as captain, Hardik Pandya faced a tough evening with the Mumbai Indians. His dismissal for a golden duck in the match against Lucknow Super Giants led to Mumbai’s loss by 4 wickets under KL Rahul’s leadership.
Mumbai Indians currently stand at the 9th spot in the IPL 2024 points table, having suffered seven defeats. Their chances of making it to the playoffs seem bleak after this loss, dealing a blow to their aspirations for the season.
Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer offered support to Hardik Pandya ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies. Jaffer expressed his solidarity with Pandya via X (formerly Twitter) after Mumbai Indians’ elimination from IPL 2024. With their loss to Lucknow Super Giants, the five-time champions bid farewell to playoff contention, marking the first season since 2013 without Rohit Sharma leading the team.
“Criticise his performance as much as you want but it’s extremely disappointing to see the constant personal trolling and attacks. Stay strong @hardikpandya7 next month you’ll be playing crucial knocks in WC and the same people will be singing your praise,” Jaffer posted on X.
Pandya has faced significant online criticism since his return to Mumbai Indians, especially regarding his appointment as captain in place of Rohit Sharma.
During this IPL season, Hardik Pandya faced a barrage of criticism from fans of Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and even from his own supporters. The attacks on social media took a personal turn, affecting his confidence on the field. Sadly, the negativity impacted his performance throughout the tournament, leaving him with little backing from his team and fans.
Not only did Pandya struggle to garner support from his fan base, but he also faced disagreements with teammates, notably Akash Madhwal, who seemed to disregard Pandya’s leadership.
Following Mumbai Indians’ exit from the IPL, Pandya, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah are gearing up for the T20 World Cup in the USA. They will be jetting off for preparations by May 25th.
