After securing another Test series victory at home, Indian captain Rohit Sharma discussed his future with the Indian team while discussing with Dinesh Karthik.
Rohit Sharma concluded yet another successful series by notching up centuries in two out of the last three Test matches against England. Making a strong comeback in the fifth and final Test, Rohit played a captain’s innings, securing a 4-1 victory over Ben Stokes’ team in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC).
Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India has displayed outstanding performances in all formats. They recently clinched a dominant 4-1 Test series win against Ben Stokes’ England, marking the first Test series loss for England in the Bazball era, which began with Stokes as captain and Brendon McCullum as head coach.
Rohit, leading the side, also guided India to the final of the 50-over ICC World Cup last year. During the England Test series, it was confirmed that he would continue to lead the Indian team in the 2024 World T20.
In a viral video from JioCinema, Rohit Sharma discussed retirement, stating that he plans to retire from cricket only when he feels his performance is not at its best. He emphasized that, currently, he is in top form and retirement is not on the horizon.
During a chat with his former India teammate Dinesh Karthik, captain Rohit expressed his thoughts on bringing an end to his remarkable career. “I think if one day if I wake up and feel I’m not good enough, I’m not feeling good enough to play the sport. I’ll just talk it out and let them know about it. But honestly, I feel in the last two or three years, my cricket has actually gone up and I’m playing the best cricket,” Rohit said.
“People are not looking at numbers. People are not looking at their personal scores. Play the game. Numbers will take care of itself if you are playing well. If you’re fearless, If your mind is clean and clear, other things will take care of itself. But don’t look out. Go out there looking for ok, can I get a 50 here? can I get 100? Obviously all those numbers are good. It will happen. But just take that completely out of your mind and just focus on the game,” Rohit continued.
The captain leading India across all formats achieved his 12th Test century during the Dharamsala match. In the series against England, the experienced batsman maintained an average of 44.44, accumulating a total of 400 runs in 9 innings. Looking ahead, Rohit Sharma is set to participate in the upcoming IPL, where he will be playing for the Mumbai Indians under the leadership of Hardik Pandya.
