From suffering a crushing 10-wicket defeat to dismantling England by taking all 10 of their wickets, Rohit and the Indian team advanced to the T20 World Cup final.
Team India has advanced to the final of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 after defeating England in the semi-final 2. The much-anticipated title clash against South Africa is set to take place at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, on Saturday, June 29.
The Indian team enters the final with high confidence, though there’s a cloud of concern over the form of star batter Virat Kohli. Despite a stellar performance with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2024, Kohli has struggled to find his rhythm in the World Cup. Over seven innings, he has managed to score only 75 runs, averaging 10.71 with a strike rate of 100.
However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has expressed unwavering support for Kohli. He assured Kohli’s place in the playing XI for the final, emphasizing that after a 15-year career, temporary dips in form are inconsequential.
In the semi-final against England, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for Kohli to regain his touch. He showed a glimpse of his prowess by hitting a six over mid-wicket, suggesting a potential return to form. Unfortunately, his innings was cut short when Reece Topley clipped his leg stump as Kohli attempted a boundary shot.
Despite Kohli’s struggles throughout the tournament, Rohit remains optimistic and confident in his teammate’s ability to shine in the final.
“He is a quality player. Any player can go through that. We do understand his class and we do understand his importance in all these big games. Form is never a problem. When you’ve played cricket for 15 years, form is never a problem. He’s looking good, the intent is there, he’s probably saving for the final. Absolutely,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation.
Skipper Rohit thinks that the key to winning the final is to play excellent cricket against the undefeated Proteas. “We have been very calm as a team. We understand the occasion (final). Staying composed helps you make good decisions. That’ll help us making the game through. You got to play good cricket. That’s what we want to do in the final. We’ll try our best, that’s all I can say. The team is in good shape, they are playing well. All I can hope is to put up another good show come the finals,” Rohit said.
