Team India captain Rohit Sharma dismissed rumors about him convening a meeting with BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Rahul Dravid to deliberate on the T20 World Cup 2024 squad selection earlier this month.
Recent rumors claimed that Rohit held a lengthy meeting with Dravid and Agarkar in Mumbai, tackling topics like Hardik Pandya’s bowling fitness for the T20 World Cup and the possibility of Kohli opening alongside him.
However, the Mumbai batsman refuted these reports, urging fans not to buy into speculation and hearsay. Rohit chuckled at the idea of him and Kohli opening together during the upcoming tournament, dismissing it as nothing more than media gossip. He playfully remarked on the media frenzy surrounding team selection, jesting that Agarkar was busy playing golf in Dubai and Dravid was focused on training his sons, providing them with cricket practice on a red soil pitch in Mumbai.
“I haven’t met anyone. Ajit Agarkar is somewhere in Dubai, playing Golf. Rahul Dravid is watching his kid play in Bengaluru. He was in Mumbai, actually. He was. He got him to play on a red soil wicket here at CCI (Cricket Club of India). That’s about it,” Sharma told Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan in the latest episode of Club Praire Fire Podcast.
“We haven’t met, to be honest. In today’s day and age, unless you hear it from either myself, Rahul himself, Ajit himself, or someone from the BCCI coming and talking in front of the camera, everything is fake,” he added.
Rohit has been quite impressive in the IPL, managing to score 261 runs across six matches with an impressive average of 52.20. His standout moment came in the last game against Chennai Super Kings, where he smashed a century for the Mumbai Indians.
In contrast, Hardik Pandya’s performance has been a cause for concern. He’s struggled to make an impact, only managing to score 131 runs in six innings at an average of 26.20. Additionally, his bowling hasn’https://www.batandbrew.in/ipl/rohit-sharma/t been up to par, with just three wickets to his name and a concerning economy rate of 12.
Many eyebrows have been raised over Hardik’s underwhelming performance, especially given his inconsistent bowling and the high number of runs he’s conceded. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has been a standout performer with the bat, leading the run-scoring charts in the tournament.
