Robin Uthappa talks about the role of Sanju Samson in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. He said, ‘If you are going to go into the World Cup with Sanju Samson playing a finisher’s role, then it’s important he understands the position well.”
In a recent plea, former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has stepped forward, urging the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and the Indian team management to offer consistent opportunities to the talented batsman, Sanju Samson. This young cricketer has long been recognized as one of the most promising prospects in the cricketing world.
However, it’s unfortunate that Samson has not had abundant chances to prove himself in the Indian team. As the 2024 T20 World Cup approaches, it becomes crucial for India to have a dependable finisher, and Uthappa firmly believes that Sanju Samson has the potential to fill that role brilliantly, given regular opportunities.
Despite being accustomed to batting higher up the order throughout his career, Samson was positioned lower in the lineup during the first T20I of the series against the West Indies. In this finisher role, the 28-year-old showed glimpses of his skills, but the game slipped away, and India lost by just four runs.
Having observed his performance, Uthappa emphasizes the importance of giving Samson an extended run and more opportunities as a finisher. It is through such consistent backing that the young talent will grow comfortable in this crucial role and truly shine.
“I am hopeful that considering the team management has decided to play Sanju Samson at No. 6 in T20I cricket, then it’s important he gets a longer rope. If you are going to go into the World Cup with Sanju Samson playing a finisher’s role, then it’s important he understands the position well. The more he plays in that position, he would be able to understand it better,” Robin Uthappa told JioCinema.
