KKR batter Rinku Singh has come forward to praise RCB bowler Yash Dayal who helped his team to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs.
In the high-stakes clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Faf du Plessis has been a standout performer, leading RCB with remarkable poise and skill.
Earlier in the match, the former South African captain scored an impressive fifty, setting a strong foundation for his team. His leadership shone through once again with a sensational catch that dismissed Mitchell Santner, putting RCB in a commanding position. On the last ball of the 15th over, Mohammed Siraj delivered a low full toss outside off stump. Santner attempted to loft it over mid-off, but du Plessis had other plans.
Initially, it seemed the ball would fly over his head, but du Plessis, known as one of the world’s best fielders, timed his jump perfectly. He caught the ball with one hand while airborne, snatching it from behind him in a breathtaking display of athleticism.
Earlier, du Plessis had top-scored for RCB with 54 runs, providing a solid start in this must-win encounter. Contributions from Virat Kohli (47), Rajat Patidar (41), and an unbeaten 38 from Cameron Green bolstered RCB’s total to a formidable 218/5.
The visitors had a rough beginning as Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed for a duck on the very first ball. CSK found themselves struggling at 129/6 after 15 overs. However, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni staged a valiant comeback, with their explosive partnership bringing them within 17 runs of the target going into the final over.
Faf du Plessis entrusted Yash Dayal with the high-pressure task of bowling the last over. Dhoni launched the first ball for a massive 110-meter six, raising hopes for CSK. Yet, Dayal quickly turned the tide, dismissing Dhoni on the next delivery. The left-arm pacer then maintained his composure, giving away just one run in the remaining four balls.
After the match, Rinku Singh took to Instagram to share a touching message for Yash Dayal. Alongside a picture of Dayal, the KKR batter wrote, “God’s plan, baby.”
A year ago, Yash Dayal experienced a crushing moment when Rinku Singh hit him for five consecutive sixes, leading to his illness and subsequent exclusion from the Gujarat Titans’ lineup for nearly a month. However, Dayal has since bounced back, finding a new path with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru after being released by his previous team last year.
In his latest match, the 26-year-old bowler delivered a performance of 2 wickets for 42 runs over four overs. Throughout the current season, Dayal has impressed by taking 15 wickets in 13 matches, maintaining an average of 28.13 and an economy rate of 8.95, with his best bowling figures being 3/20. He currently stands as the leading wicket-taker for RCB this season.
